How Shift Meter works

Shift Meter is a simple live wage calculator. Enter your hourly rate, tap Start shift, and watch your earnings count up in real time for the rest of your shift — down to the second. It's built for a quick glance mid-shift, not for record-keeping or payroll.

Frequently asked questions

Does this include tax or deductions?

No. The figure shown is gross pay before tax, National Insurance, pension contributions, or any other deductions — treat it as an estimate of what you're earning, not your final take-home pay.

Is my data private?

Yes. Your wage, shift history, and settings are stored only in your own browser. Nothing is sent to a server, and no one else can see it.

What happens if I close the tab or refresh the page?

Your shift keeps running. Wage, start time, and break time are all saved locally, so reopening the page picks up exactly where you left off.

Can I use a different currency?

Yes — choose GBP, USD, EUR, or JPY from the currency dropdown on the setup screen before starting a shift.

How accurate is the earnings figure?

It's a straightforward calculation: hours worked, minus any unpaid breaks, multiplied by your hourly rate. It doesn't account for overtime rates, bonuses, or anything beyond a flat hourly wage.

Shift Meter is provided for general interest and personal tracking only. It is not financial, payroll, or tax advice, and figures shown should not be relied on for official pay calculations.
